treatment for rosacea & acne rosacea
At Southernhay Clinic, we recommend the use of acupuncture to reduce the redness and ‘breakouts’ associated with rosacea and acne rosacea. There are lots of other treatments available including laser treatments, topical and oral anti-biotics, but my personal experience has been a very positive one with acupuncture (see before and after photos).
Using skin care with anti-inflammatory ingredients is appropriate in the treatment of rosacea. These include; aloe vera, arnica, calendula, chamomile, cucumber, provitamin B5, feverfew, green tea, licochalone, perilla leaf extract, red algae, red clover, thyme, willow herb, and zinc.
We also recommend the use of Mineral make-up, such as Jane Iredale that contain these anti-inflammatory agents can also help. In addition, they do not tend to enter the skin and exacerbate rosacea. India Jeffries, our Personal Stylist, stocks Jane Iredale.
What is rosacea?
Rosacea is a condition that is characterised by facial redness - especially around the nose, cheeks, chin and in between the brow. People with this condition are consistently red or flush easily. Broken facial capillaries and acne-like pustules on the face are also a common consequence of having rosacea. Other signs of rosacea include; bloodshot or watery eyes, burning/stinging sensations on the face, and sensitive skin. It is a common condition that affects approximately 1 in 20 people.

The treatment involves removing heat from the skin by using points that are calming and cooling. It can take 3 months of treatment starting weekly then fortnightly until a difference is seen, but the difference can be remarkable. You may need top-ups every so often.
The results you see below are after 6 weekly treatments:
