the bowen technique
Jenny Pennell
The Bowen Technique is a dynamic system of muscle and connective tissue therapy that has been used successfully to treat people suffering from a variety of illnesses. Developed by the late Tom Bowen in Australia, this wonderful light touch, holistic therapy consists of a series of gentle moves with pauses in between to allow the body to respond. The moves are light but precise and can be done through light clothing.
Through the gentle rolling of muscles, the fascia - thin, tough translucent sheets of fibrous material that envelop almost all structures in the body – is activated, sending signals to the brain, which stimulates the body’s resources to heal itself.
The bowen technique has been found to be an effective treatment for:
-
Back
-
Sciatica
-
Elbow / wrist pain / RSI / carpel tunnel
-
Sports and accident injuries
-
Neck and shoulder pain
-
Hip / pelvic /groin pain
-
Knee, ankle / foot pain
It has also been found to offer relief from:
-
Digestive and bowel problems
-
Earache and ear problems
-
Migraine
-
Fibromyalgia
-
Chronic fatigue syndrome / ME
-
Menstrual / hormonal irregularities
-
Respiratory problems / hay fever
Bowen therapy is safe to use on anyone from babies to the elderly and can produce lasting relief from pain and discomfort. Three sessions are usually sufficient for most conditions. A session normally lasts about an hour and frequently results in a deep sense of overall relaxation.
