about Peter

Uniquely trained in Gestalt and Humanistic approaches, I provide highly creative approaches to Sport Psychology consultancy. Having achieved a BSc in Sports Science (2004) and an MSc in Sport Psychology (2005) both from Brunel University, I bring a strong academic background to my work and I work with both adults and children.

Throughout my academic research I was a keen tennis player, leading my University team to division promotion in 2004. Through researching anticipatory skill in tennis, I advanced my thesis with a peer reviewed journal, led by my supervisor, Dr Robin Jackson. During my MSc I coached others, and through encouraging players to take charge of their styles of game and decision making skills, I helped them achieve great success. I have worked extensively in both the UK and USA with juniors and adults to help each player move in the right direction to achieve their goals in tennis.

I began my BASES accreditation in 2008 upon my return from the US. Through 3 years of intensive rigorous CPD I have enhanced my ability to provide effective psychological support. With my distinctive skills, I challenge the attitudes, perceptions, and beliefs of athletes', from amateur right through to elite.

My creative, innovative approaches have been effectively applied in a wide variety of sports settings with many athletes and coaches including, Elite School Sports Academies, International High Performance Tennis players and coaches, Satellite Performance Tennis Centers, National and International Athletics, Judo, swimming and weight-lifting.

I am in the final stages of completing my BASES accreditation and I offer a bespoke consultancy service to all clients. I look forward to helping both children and adults achieve more in their chosen area of performance.

sports psychology

Sport Psychology is an area of study within Sports Science focused on the mental aspects of sports performance. Essentially, how one thinks and feels impacts the brain and subsequent body movements and actions. Scientifically researched areas of Sport Psychology encompass the impact the mind has in most if not all sporting situations performed worldwide. Sports Psychologists support a whole range of athletes' from novice right up to professional. The use of sport psychology services is increasing in sport as amateurs right to elite level performers are seeking ways to perform at their best. Sports performers looking for an edge over their rivals seek the services of a sport psychologist for help with:

The therapeutic process associated with such services depends upon the practitioner. Gestalt and humanistically trained Sports Psychologists work in an ideographic sense (understanding the person, the situation, and the persons World) helping performers achieve their needs. Gestalt essentially means awareness, of the self, surroundings, and understanding of others. In sport the Gestalt approach helps increase awareness of decision making processes, and enables that sports person to be more aware of how they can solve their own challenges/needs, such as:

Clients who are looking to have a greater understanding of self, improve how they interact with others, overcome challenges, and problem solve will benefit from this support.

Please do call me for more information on how I can help you improve your sports performance.
